Just yesterday GPT-4 Vision went live on my account. First I used it from my PC to analyze some schematics from my work. It did an impressive job. It was able to analyze the details of the electrical drawing with precise detail and give me a written summary. Even more remarkable it was able to gleam the actual purpose of this type of drawing and what it would be used for in real life. I thought, wow this could be really useful to help people read complicated drawings in order to troubleshoot electrical devices in a commercial or manufacturing setting.
Then later in the day I decided to use it from the camera on my phone along with the new voice prompts and then I really began to realize the usefulness this feature could have in people’s everyday lives. I’ll show you some examples below and you can decide for yourself. I used the voice input feature and also realized when you input a picture form your phone it asks you to optionally draw a circle around the subject you would like to ask your question about.
Testing it out to see if it could tell what My Solo Stove fire pit was.
2. Using it to troubleshoot my pool pump and sand filter.
3. Asked my 9 year son how he would like to use it and he found a flower in the yard to analyze. Along with a very philosophical question.
4. Helping me fix my son’s bicycle. Testing to see if it could figure something out in a crowded field of things from my garage.
This feature could really make GPT-4 Vision useful in everyday settings to large groups of people. I know the feature is not available to everyone so if there is something you would like to test out please leave it in the comments below and I’ll be happy to try it out for you and post my results.
